Meet Gandi
Gandi’s Story
On the island nation of Papua New Guinea, God is at work, changing the lives of kids, families and cultures.
Papua New Guinea has a history of sorcery and witchcraft. These demonic beliefs have led to a variety of heinous activities amongst the island’s population. The Gotomi region is known throughout New Guinea as a place where the dark arts are practiced. Yet even here, God is reaching children through Awana.
Gandi is one of 32 children of the chief and village magistrate. His father has seven wives and Gandi is his mother’s only child and the youngest of the chief’s children.
When an Awana club started in the region, Gandi was granted permission by his father to attend and it was there that Gandi began to learn about his Heavenly Father and about His one and only Son, Jesus. These truths were planted deep in Gandi’s heart and took root and soon Gandi would never miss an Awana club meeting.
Gandi professed faith in Jesus as his Savior and through this young boy, Gandi’s mother, two of his stepmothers, seven of his brothers and eight of his sister came to saving faith in Jesus as well!
We can all pray for the day when Gandi’s father puts his own faith in Jesus. When that day happens, it is likely, given his father’s position that Gandi’s whole village will be taught the ways of the Lord.
Through the least likely little boy, the youngest of 32 children, God may change the heart of a village chief and potentially change the eternity of an entire region!
