We Invite You to a Journey — Through Holy Week

We often use the word journey in everyday conversation, don’t we? Originally, journey was used to literally denote a day’s travel. More recently, it has taken on the figurative meanings of traversing the ups and downs of life and the passage from one stage to another — both mentally and spiritually. As we approach Easter and anticipate Jesus’ redeeming act of mercy, we invite you to use our new Journey Through Holy Week family resource and experience “journey” — in all of its meanings.
How do I use this resource?
Jesus journeyed life here on earth; and we remember the gift He gave us by walking with His people in the weeks preceding His death, burial and resurrection. We designed Journey Through Holy Week to take you and your family on a daily walk with Him from Palm Sunday through Resurrection Sunday. Each day is divided into several sections to help you experience and reflect on the events that led to Easter.
Scripture: You’ll find featured texts from both the Old and New Testaments. Gather around His Word, and give your children an opportunity to find the verses in the Bible and read them aloud.
Devotion: To expand your understanding of each passage, we’ve written a short devotion to help mentally connect you to Jesus’ time here on earth.
Dig a Little Deeper: For terminology that is confusing, refer to the additional information to help bring clarity to your reading.
Wonder Together: Allow these questions to stimulate conversation and thoughtful reflection.
Reflection Page: Print enough copies of this page for you and your family to draw on or write your prayers and observations as you work through the study.
Coloring Page: If you enjoy coloring or have littles who like to keep their hands busy to stay engaged, print these pages out and bring them to life with your creativity!
Where should I start?
1. Download and save Journey Through Holy Week to your computer, tablet or phone (whichever works best for you!). We’ve designed two experiences; choose the one you prefer to walk through. We’ve designed a three-day experience (Friday through Sunday) and an eight-day experience; choose the one you prefer to walk through.
2. Consider who you might share this experience with. Will you gather with family, your small group or accountability partner? If you prefer to journey alone, share your reflections at the end of the week with a friend. You’re likely to find both of you grow in your faith through the conversation.
3. Schedule time each day to work through the study, whether it’s during a meal, when you first wake up or in between activities. Whatever you decide, resolve to prioritize a part of each day for your journey through Holy Week.
4. If an audio resource works better for you or you’d like to supplement the printed resource, download Journey Through Holy Week podcasts, available on our Resilient Disciples website or wherever you listen to podcasts.
Our Prayer for You
During Holy Week, Jesus took a journey – both literally and figuratively. As you use Journey Through Holy Week to study and reflect on His journey, our prayer for you and your family is that you will also be on a journey. A journey that leads you to a better understanding of who Christ is and what He wants to do in and through you.
