It’s Here: The Refreshed Awana Puggles Program!

Our Awana Puggles® program has been refreshed! Released July 2019, the new program is still based around four key concepts from Scripture — the four “Big Truths” — but has been enhanced with new products and features so that it is easier to lead an excellent Puggles group. The new program is also now in the same format as our other clubs, making it easy for young children to transfer to Cubbies.
What is Puggles?
Puggles is a program to introduce young children to what they need to know most about God and His love! It communicates the four Big Truths from the Bible that form a strong first impression of God, His love for us, and our response to His love. Children will learn the Big Truths and the Bible verses that go with them.
Can you tell us more about the history of Puggles?
Puggles is the Awana program for 2- and 3-year-olds, and was created in 2007. Our customers voiced a need to have an age-appropriate program for younger children who were coming to Awana clubs. The initial Puggles program was based around four biblical truths, called precepts, and involved large, colorful photo images on the teaching cards for leaders to easily use as they taught. It was named Puggles after the name for a baby platypus, called a puggle.
What changed in Puggles?
The Puggles program contains a lot of the same things people know and love about it, such as large images on the teaching cards and scripted lessons, but with extra components and increased effectiveness for kids and leaders. The program is still based around four biblical truths, now called “Big Truths,” for kids to learn and remember. The four Big Truths are based on Scripture and have corresponding Bible verses for memorizing.

What are the main Puggles products for leaders?
Capture children’s attention during weekly lessons! Show the colorful pictures on the front of these cards while you teach from the simple, scripted sections (including Bible story) on the back.
Plan great Puggles moments with detailed material for each lesson. This book also has additional pieces to enhance time with children, including printable craft pages, activities and games.
The Puggles Big Truths Music DVD and CD
The DVD shows the visuals and hand motions for Puggles Big Verses Scripture songs from Randall Goodgame (of Slugs and Bugs) and worship music for preschoolers by Yancy! These new songs make Scripture memory easy and are also available on CD.
What are the main Puggles products for kids?
The Puggles Coloring and Activity Book
Give kids their own “handbook” to use at home or during Puggles. Fun pages help children engage artistically and review what they learn in an age-appropriate way.
The Puggles Big Truths Entrance Booklet
Present the Puggles Big Truths to kids with this small, whimsical book. It’s also a low-cost way to engage kids at home as they review biblical themes.
What are the main Puggles products for parents?
Encourage discipleship and lesson review at home or on the go! Each card has the week’s topic and a picture on the front to show kids. On the back, there is a short way to share the Bible story, plus simple activities. Cards come with a convenient zipper pouch.
Are there other Puggles products as well?
Many existing products will continue, and several others will be added, including stickers for multipurpose use, a group attendance chart, finger puppets and updated board books.
Who are the characters in Puggles?
The Puggles program still features Puggle the Platypus, Sydney the Koala, and Alice the Kangaroo. They are now joined by a human character, Maya, who likes to pretend with her stuffed animals that her uncle brought her from Australia. Kids will follow Maya’s adventures in the coloring book and in the puppet shows. Each character represents a Big Truth, and their images are used throughout the teaching portions of the program.
