The world has come to Canada as it has pursued a policy of immigration. Many native Canadians are secular, but Catholicism fares better than Protestantism. Other religions are making inroads as Asian immigrants arrive, producing a great opportunity for Christian ministries like Awana Canada. Awana exists in Canada to reach kids with the incredible news of the gospel, equip leaders there with courage and proven training methods, and to change the lives of many who wonder if life can provide something more.
Reaching Kids in Canada
There are more than 5 million children in Canada today under the age of 15. They come from vastly different people groups that typically do not mix. Awana Canada offers learning through fun activities and trained leaders, and it works through local churches to provide discipleship and a means to bring churches together. Since the first club began there in 1976, the gospel of Christ has shown each child in Awana that he or she is precious to God and created specially by Him!
Every week, Awana Canada reaches 50,486 children with the gospel through 449 clubs.
Equipping Leaders in Canada
Awana is a proven program for reaching kids with the gospel. But it disciples the rest of the church through equipping the Awana club leaders, and discipleship is key to raise up more Christian leaders for Canada. Each Awana program is built upon leadership that is trained to reach children, like those who use our Leader-Based Strategy (LBS) curriculum. National missionaries, who understand the complexity of their countries, assist the churches which use the Awana program.
In Canada, there are 12 missionary couples serving the churches with Awana clubs. They help the churches to implement the program and train the leaders. In addition, because Canada is so large and parts are hard to reach, some of the missionaries serve as regional directors of provinces or areas. A national director provides training and oversight for the ministry.
Changing the World in Canada
When a church starts the Awana program, children have a meaningful and fun place to go as they learn about the gospel. Adults are discipled and trained to make more disciples. Awana seeks to reach more children in Canada with the gospel and equip more leaders there.
