Rebekah Turner credits Awana for helping grow her into a modern-day Joseph

Rebekah Turner knows first hand the value Awana can have in a child’s life. She became a Christian as a result of the program and her parents.

“My parents used the Awana verses I was memorizing in Cubbies (the Awana club for preschool-age kids) to lead me to salvation,” Rebekah shared. “They consistently helped my siblings and me understand and apply the verses to our lives, asking us in challenging times, ‘Have you memorized an Awana verse that would help in this situation?’"

Rebekah attended Awana for eight years from Cubbies all the way to receiving her Citation Award, the highest achievement in Awana, at South Bend (Washington) First Baptist Church. She then served as a leader for five years.

A reliable foundation for her faith

The training Rebekah received in Awana is keeping her strong in her faith, creating a sound spiritual foundation that allows her to maintain a solid walk with God.

“I read my Bible every day and spend time in prayer,” Rebekah said.

Rebekah’s knowledge of the Bible is shaping every aspect of her life, leading her in the right direction – toward God.

“The Bible knowledge I gained at Awana has helped me in more ways than I could count,” Rebecca said. “I chose to attend a Christian university, and I have found that much of the assigned passages for Scripture memory are already familiar to me. The friends I choose are those who are seeking the Lord, desiring to please and serve Him. Finally, the young man who is courting me was also saved through Awana and is committed to having a godly home and family.”

Giving back through service

Rebekah is a firm believer in the benefits Awana provides to prepare young people to follow Christ for a lifetime. Now she feels it is her turn to give back in service to others. She is involved in many areas of ministry at her church – Willapa Harbor Christian Fellowship in Raymond, Washington.

“I teach children's church, accompany for services and participate in the church choir,” Rebekah said. “I also continue to work with the kids' Bible club as a leader for the fifth- and sixth-grade girls. “Why do I serve? I learned so much from those who invested in my life that I want to invest that same love for the Lord in the lives of others. I want to encourage children to memorize the Bible and study God's Word for themselves.”

Through Awana and the influence of Christian parents, God has enabled Rebekah to stay close to Him, just like Joseph of Genesis.
