There are more children in India under age 18 than there are people in the United States! And every day, 42,000 children are born into the population. That’s each and every single day!

In India, Awana has traditionally been ministering to about 45,000 children a year through our church-based club program. At our historical growth rate, it would take over 400 years just to reach the current children of India with the gospel message!

So it is an understatement to say that to reach the world’s children and youth with the gospel, we have to do ministry more effectively. The Awana leadership, both in India and at home, has learned that to have more effective, exponential growth, you have to grow your leaders exponentially.

That’s the germinating idea behind the Seed Planters Campaign. This campaign puts national church leadership in motion and equips them with the skills and tools they need to develop an affordable and effective Awana program in their churches. The goal is that all children will come to know, love and serve Christ.

This is a first look at a new initiative by Awana International called Seed Planters and the Leader-Based Strategy on which it was built. Check back with us over the next several weeks as we add more information about this great new initiative for Awana International.

Shoe Shine Boy

Nearly every day, Awana missionary Sofia Ordonez encounters a sight that breaks her heart. Near the central bus terminal in the city of Huehuetenango, Guatemala, she sees street children shining shoes and selling food and candy.  Sofia said, “For many of the children, their efforts provide the sole source of income for their families. No one shows any care for these children—educationally, definitely not spiritually, and the Lord really spoke to my heart that if I didn’t do something for these kids, who would?”

It is through the Leader-Based Strategy and Seed Planters training that children such as these can be reached with the gospel.
