Out of Death Comes Life
How one child's murder has motivated three churches in her community to reach the spiritually lost through AwanaIn early July, 5-year-old Evelyn Miller was abducted from her home in Floyd, Iowa. She was later found murdered. Evelyn had attended an Awana club at Bethel Alliance Church in nearby Charles City.
Evelyn's death has motivated the churches of the small community to work together to reach children with the gospel. Unable to sustain an Awana ministry by itself, Bethel Alliance will join forces with two other churches to begin an Awana program this fall. One church will provide some funding to start the club, another will donate surplus Awana materials and the third will provide the space in which to meet. Workers are being recruited from all three churches.
“When children are abducted and murdered in a small community, it changes the climate of the community," said Mike Daniel, the organizing commander of the new Awana program. “The changed spiritual climate here is that many Christians are now more willing to labor for the lost souls in our community.”
